Firefighters with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Prevention (CAL FIRE) will carry out a controlled burn along Highway 128 in rural Solano County this week.
The prescribed burn will take place between Pleasants Valley Road in rural Vacaville and Canyon Creek Resort near Winters starting on Tuesday.
The burns will take place between the hours of 6 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. starting Tuesday and lasting through Thursday, though CAL FIRE says the schedule may change if conditions warrant.
Approximately 50 acres of vegetation will be burned, CAL FIRE said in a statement. Residents in the area will likely be able to see smoke for several miles during the burn. CAL FIRE will be joined by local fire agencies from Solano and Yolo counties during the prescribed burn event this week.
“The area to be treated has seen six large fires over the last six years,” a CAL FIRE spokesperson said.
The exercise is part of the Highway 128 Prescribed Burn Project, which aims to create a fire break around 6 miles long, CAL FIRE said. The break will help slow the spread of any fires that start during the hot summer months.
