A house fire in Fairfield on Sunday claimed the life of a young adult, Solano Newsnet has learned.
The fire was reported around 6:30 p.m. at a home along the 2100 block of Starling Way.
Early reports indicated a person was trapped toward the back of the home, according to dispatches reviewed by Solano NewsNet. The person was initially described as a child, but firefighters later learned the victim was a 27-year-old man.
Firefighters attempted to rescue the victim from the home, but they died from injuries sustained in the fire. A chaplain and a fire investigator were dispatched to the scene a short time later.
Three people were displaced as a result of the fire, and two people were treated for minor injuries, including one man who was taken to an area hospital after suffering smoke inhalation.
In a social media post, fire officials said the blaze caused around $300,000 in structural and miscellaneous property damage.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, though officials believe it was accidentally started.
