The Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) is warning customers in several Northern California counties that their electrical service may be disrupted due to anticipated weather that could result in wildfires.
Solano and Yolo counties are among the several listed by PG&E for possible planned safety power shutoffs (PSPS) between Thursday, October 17 through Sunday, October 20.
The precise areas that could be impacted by PSPS events were not disclosed. A PG&E outage map reviewed by Solano NewsNet said PSPS forecasts are typically mapped two days before a potential event, though the map did not appear to be updated on Tuesday. PG&E does not send press release or community alerts to Solano NewsNet, despite repeated requests from this news organization over the past several years.
The PSPS warning comes amid a Red Flag Warning issued by the National Weather Service, which covers much of the same time period. Forecasters say high wind coupled with seasonably-warm temperatures and low humidity could exacerbate fire conditions throughout the region. Any fires that start during the Red Flag Warning could spread quickly, forecasters said.
