A small fire that broke out near the Best Buy electronics retailer in Fairfield is being investigated as a possible case of arson.
The fire broke out on Tuesday around 12 p.m. along a catwalk near the audio installation area of the store, according to dispatches.
The small fire briefly threatened the exterior of the building, but didn’t actually reach the store itself. It was quickly brought under control by responding fire crews.
The Best Buy store did not need to be evacuated as a result of the fire.
Police were summoned to the scene of the fire after firefighters suspected it may have been deliberately started by a transient or group of transients, according to dispatches reviewed by Solano NewsNet.
Based on the circumstances of the scene, investigators have opened a possible arson case.
The Best Buy store is one of several anchors at Solano Town Center, the retail shopping plaza formerly known as Westfield Solano Mall and still referred to as “Solano Mall” by some residents. Other portions of the mall were unaffected by the incident.
