Fire burning in Novato sending smoke into Solano County

A fire burning at a landfill in Novato is sending smoke and a strange smell into Solano County.
The fire started near U.S. Highway 101 and San Antonio Road around 4:30 p.m., according to a wildfire monitoring camera stationed in Marin County.
As of 7:30 p.m., the fire was at 1115 acres and was 40 percent contained.
The blaze sent a large plume of smoke over Marin County that wafted east in parts of Vallejo, Benicia and Suisun City.
The smell associated with the fire was reported as far north as Vacaville and could drift further into the Sacramento Valley overnight.
In Vallejo, city officials issued a smoke advisory that was associated with the fire. Individuals who are sensitive to smoke should remain indoors while the fire continues, the officials said.
No active fires were burning in Solano County as of 7:45 p.m.
