The organizers of the Fiesta Days carnival in Vacaville have condemned a shooting that forced the premature cancellation of Sunday evening’s event.
The shooting happened around 8 p.m. when an argument between two individuals escalated into a shooting that sent an 18-year-old man from Fairfield to the hospital with a leg injury.
Another 18-year-old, identified by police as Herman Torres-Bernal of Suisun City, was detained by an off-duty officer and arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Solano NewsNet was the first to identify Torres-Bernal as the suspect in the incident.
In a statement posted on Monday, the organizers of Fiesta Days said they condemned the shooting and criticized “two individuals from out of town” for ruining Sunday evening’s event.
“Last night’s incident was an isolated incident,” the organizers wrote in a social media message on Monday. “It does not define our community, [which] is standing together against violence.”
Monday is the final day for the festival, and event organizers said it would continue as planned.
