A teenager from Fairfield has been identified as the victim of a drowning at Lake Berryessa earlier this week.
The body of Demetrio Perriatt, 16, was recovered by divers with the Napa County Sheriff’s Office early Tuesday morning.
Police say Perriatt was celebrating his girlfriend’s birthday at the lake when he slipped under the water. First responders searched the lake on Monday, to no avail.
A search continued on Tuesday, with divers recovering Perriatt’s body around noon.
Perriatt was a player with the Fairfield Expos youth baseball team. Prior to the celebration at the lake, the teenager had embarked on a two-week tour of Oregon and had played an entire game against the Reno Knights, the team said in a statement.
The teenager was less than a month away from celebrating his 17th birthday. A family friend has launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for Perriatt’s memorial service.
