A Fairfield man was formally arraigned on murder charges in connection with the stabbing death of another man earlier this month.
On Friday, 26-year-old Deion Jeremiah Lloyd Diamond appeared in person for a scheduled court hearing. His lawyer, Walnut Creek-based defense attorney Thomas McKenna, entered a not guilty on his behalf.
Diamond is accused of stabbing 56-year-old Charles Parsons near a convenience store on May 16. As Solano NewsNet previously reported, Diamond spoke with a police dispatcher minutes after the stabbing and confessed that he was involved in the incident.
Diamond claimed the stabbing was in self-defense, according to information obtained by Solano NewsNet, but a police spokesperson later said it was part of a robbery that went south.
Officers recovered a bloody knife in the backyard of a home along Empire Street about an hour after the stabbing occurred. Diamond and another man were arrested in connection with the incident later that day.
The other man, 43-year-old Ronnie Kaufman, was initially accused of robbery, but Solano County District Attorney’s Office declined to pursue that charge.
At the time of his arrest, Diamond had several criminal charges that were pending in court. He had been arraigned and released on bail, according to documents reviewed by Solano NewsNet.
Diamond is scheduled to appear in court for a pre-trial hearing on July 8.
