Firefighters at a Fairfield fire station were told to shelter in place after a fire official heard gunshots late Tuesday evening.
The incident happened around 10:15 p.m. along the 900 block of Delaware Street.
The shooting was reported by a fire official, who said personnel inside the firehouse were told to shelter in place as a precaution.
The official gave police a description of a vehicle that was seen speeding from the area. Officers later located shell casings that were consistent with a shooting, but no suspect or victim were located.
The incident happened while police were responding to a report of an assault and stabbing near a gas station on Oliver Road. One person died from injuries sustained in that incident.
The two events were later determined to be unrelated.
