A Fairfield police officer is receiving national recognition for his dedication as a school resource officer.
Officer Joshua Bender will be honored later this year as the National School Resource Officer of the Year, the police department said in a social media post on Monday.
The award is given annually by the National Association of School Resource Officers, a not-for-profit organization that partners with school administrators and local law enforcement agencies to facilitate security for students and staff members at campuses across the country.
Hundreds of nominees were submitted for the award, but Bender stood out for his dedication and hard work to the Fairfield community and his assigned campus, Grange Middle School.
“Officer Bender’s hard work, dedication and commitment to our youth put him at the very top,” a Fairfield police spokesperson wrote on Monday.
Bender’s nomination was supported by letters written by staff members at Grange Middle School and administrators at the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District, the police department said.
Bender will be formally recognized and awarded at the National School Resource Officer Conference later this year.
