The Fairfield Police Department says it will operate a sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint in the city on Friday.
The checkpoint will be established in the area of Oliver Road and Travis Boulevard, the agency said in a news release.
Law enforcement agencies are required to provide public notice of sobriety and driver's license checkpoints. Sobriety checkpoints screen drivers for impairment from the use of alcohol, marijuana, prescription drugs and other substances.
“In recent years, California has seen a disturbing increase in drug-impaired driving crashes,” a Fairfield Police Department spokesperson wrote in a statement.
Impaired drivers face jail time, monetary fines and mandatory classes along with the possibility of having their licenses suspended or revoked.
The agency says crashes have been reduced by as much as 20 percent when sobriety checkpoints are conducted on a regular basis.
