The Fairfield Police Department on Wednesday swore-in the agency’s first female chief of police.
Deanna Cantrell joined Fairfield police from San Luis Obispo where she served as that agency’s chief of police since 2016. Prior to her time there, she worked as a police officer in Mesa, Arizona, the Fairfield Police Department said in a news release.
“As the chief of police, Cantrell is committed to working in partnership with our community to preserve and enhance the quality of life through effective community policing, crime prevention, education, department transparency and innovative law enforcement,” a Fairfield police spokesperson said.
In addition to her police duties, Cantrell served on the NAACP Legal Redress Committee, the Muslim Police Advisory Board and chaired the Human Rights Forum in Mesa.
A Fairfield police spokesperson said Chief Cantrell will be introduced to the community during the next city council meeting on Tuesday, October 20.
