A month-long shooting case in Fairfield was solved with the arrest of two individuals and the recovery of a loaded firearm last week.
On Friday, November 13, police officers were in the area of Dover Avenue when they spotted a vehicle they believed to be connected to a case from early October. During the stop, a passenger fled from the vehicle and was chased by officers through a residential neighborhood near a church.
With the assistance of a police dog, officers found 22-year-old Christopher Cornist hiding in a shed. He was taken into custody and booked into jail.
Officers also took the driver of the stopped vehicle, later identified as Jaquan Lewis, 21, of American Canyon, into custody. Police say Cornist and Lewis were the primary suspects involved in an October 10 shooting in the 1500 block of Travis Boulevard. No one was injured in the shooting.
“The Fairfield Police Department would like to commend the community on helping out with this investigation,” the agency said in a social media post on Monday. “Without your bravery to speak up and help the investigation, we may not have solved it.”
Anyone who wants to provide additional information in the two cases can contact the Fairfield Police Department’s investigatory bureau at 707-428-7600.
