Fairfield police investigate shooting at homeless encampment

The Fairfield Police Department is investigating a shooting at a homeless encampment that left one person with life-threatening injuries on Wednesday.
The shooting happened around 11:15 a.m. near the 300 block of State Street. Police say the shooting occurred at a homeless encampment that were near some railroad tracks.
Officers initially had trouble accessing the scene of the incident, but once they arrived, they located a 23-year-old Fairfield man suffering from a gunshot wound to his abdomen.
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.
Officials believe the incident started as an argument between two armed individuals. The argument escalated into a shooting, and the suspect involved in the incident has not yet been captured.
