A Fairfield police dog is recovering from injuries sustained during an encounter with a burglary suspect on Wednesday.
Around 2 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of Elm Street after receiving a report of a person burglarizing a home belonging to an elderly resident.
Moments later, police dispatchers received a report from an Amazon driver that the same suspect threatened to kill him and steal his delivery truck, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as 44-year-old Kurt Alan Dasilva, a Fairfield resident with a history of burglarizing homes in Solano County, according to a review of crime logs and court records by Solano NewsNet.
Police say Dasilva barricaded himself inside a home along Elm Street when they attempted to confront him. Officers eventually entered the home to arrest Dasilva, and their police K9, Cort, “contacted the suspect.”
Dasilva responded by allegedly biting K9 Cort in the face and stabbing him in the side, a police spokesperson said. Cort was treated at a veterinary hospital in Davis and is recovering from his injuries.
Dasilva was taken into custody and booked into county jail on a number of felony charges, the spokesperson said.
