A traffic crash near Vacaville on Sunday led police to a stolen vehicle that was driving along a busy street in nearby Fairfield.
Around 4:30 p.m., Vacaville medics were dispatched to a report of a vehicle that had flipped into a ditch along the east-bound lanes of Interstate 80 near the Alamo Drive off-ramp.
Shortly after arriving on the scene, police learned the crash was caused by another vehicle that was speeding in excess of 110 miles per hour. Officers later learned the speeding vehicle had been reported stolen out of San Francisco.
Police in Vacaville issued a bulletin urging officers to be on the lookout for the stolen vehicle, which was described as a 4-door Acura Integra. About 10 minutes after the crash, a traffic camera along Peabody Road spotted the vehicle driving toward Fairfield.
Officers in Fairfield were put on notice and soon located the Acura traveling down Airbase Parkway. Police noted the Acura had significant damage on the passenger side that appeared to be consistent with the earlier hit-and-run near Vacaville.
Around 5 p.m., the vehicle was pulled over and the driver was detained without further incident.
Emergency crews are still working to process the scene of the crash near the freeway. The driver involved in the crash suffered minor injuries.
