A Solano County man was one of two individuals arrested this week after police say he was operating a boat at Lake Berryessa while armed with a fully-loaded assault rifle.
The arrests happened Wednesday morning after deputies with the Napa County Sheriff’s Office were alerted to a suspicious vehicle that was blocking the Putah Creek launch ramp to the lake, police said in a social media post.
Deputies noticed a man standing next to the vehicle and began to ask him a series of questions. They ultimately learned the man was Nathan Norfolk, 37, of Winters, who had several warrants out for his arrest, police said.
Police detained Norfolk on the arrest warrants, then searched his car, where they reportedly found more than $8,000 in cash as well as three ounces of heroin.
Further investigation revealed Norfolk was not the owner of the car. They eventually located the owner, 69-year-old John Duran of Fairfield, on a jet ski 50 yards away from the ramp.
Officers said they recovered a fully-loaded AR-15 rifle inside a storage case on the jet ski. Duran was placed under arrest on unknown charges.
