Fairfield fire crews are on the scene of a grass fire near Interstate 80.
The fire broke out just after 1:30 a.m. along west-bound portions of the freeway between West Texas Street and Abernathy Road.
A firefighter on the scene said the fire was located in a 25-square-foot portion of grass along the freeway’s shoulder.
Crews said there was a slow rate of spread and the fire is expected to be contained shortly.
The fire broke out during a Red Flag Warning that lasts through Wednesday morning. During the warning period, weather forecasters say fires have the potential to start quickly and spread rapidly.
