The City of Fairfield has closed several parks in anticipation of elevated fire danger later this week.
In a social media post, city officials said the following parks and open spaces would be closed starting Wednesday at sundown:
Rockville Hills Regional Park (2149 Rockville Road)
Spyglass Open Space (between Waterman Boulevard and Nephi Drive)
Serpas Ranch Open Space (Sanctuary Circle)
Rolling Hills Open Space (between Hillborn Road and Lyons Road)
The closures will last until Saturday, the city said.
On Wednesday, the National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning that covers all of Solano County from Thursday at 11 a.m. until Friday at 8 p.m.
During the warning period, humidity levels are expected to be below 10 percent during the day, with little overnight recovery. Sustained gusts up to 40 miles per hour are possible throughout the Sacramento Valley.
Forecasters say those conditions will elevate fire danger between Thursday morning and Friday night. Any wildfires that start during the Red Flag Warning period are likely to spread quickly, forecasters said.
In a tweet on Wednesday, the Yolo-Solano Air Quality Management District declared Thursday a “No Burn Day,” citing the Red Flag Warning among its reasons. Later, a Vacaville fire official confirmed to Solano NewsNet that a training burn scheduled for Thursday on Callen Hill had been postponed due to the anticipated weather conditions.
