Exclusive video: Grenade draws police response to Vacaville store
A Fairfield man was arrested in Vacaville after an alleged shoplifting incident required a response from a military explosive ordinance team.
The incident happened around 2 p.m. at the Nugget Supermarket along Browns Valley Parkway when store security confronted 23-year-old Octavio Rodriguez who was suspected of shoplifting.
At one point, Rodriguez reportedly threatened employees with a device that resembled a grenade.
Police arrived on the scene within minutes and arrested Rodriguez. The grenade was moved to a concrete garbage enclosure in the parking lot of a nearby store.
Members of the Travis Air Force Base Explosive Ordinance Disposal team were called to the scene and determined the grenade was empty.
Rodriguez was transported to the Solano County jail where he is expected to be booked on suspicion of assault, criminal threats and other charges.
