A victim who was fatally struck by a train in rural Solano County on Saturday has been identified by sources as a Dixon High School student.
Luke Abilez, 16, died from injuries sustained in the incident, according to two sources familiar with the case.
Around 8 p.m. Saturday, emergency crews were dispatched to a report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a train in the area of Batavia Road south of Dixon.
The investigation into what happened continues, but foul play is not suspected, according to a law enforcement source who spoke with Solano News Update on background.
A memorial was held on Sunday at Dixon High School with members of the Future Farms of America chapter where Abilez was active, according to a relative of a student who was familiar with the event.
Counseling services are being offered to students, teachers and parents by Dixon High School through the teleconference app Zoom, according to public social media posts reviewed by Solano News Update.
A school spokesperson said students and others who aren’t comfortable with counseling services over Zoom can reach staff through other means, including by phone, email or text message.
“We are here for support,” the spokesperson said.
