The National Weather Service in Sacramento has extended an Excessive Heat Warning as extremely high temperatures are expected across the region through the weekend.
The warning period now lasts until Sunday evening at 8 p.m., the weather agency said. It was originally scheduled to end Saturday evening.
“The desert high pressure system continues to bring excessive heat to Northern California,” forecasters said in a weather bulletin issued on Friday.
That system will remain over the Sacramento valley, including Solano County, on Saturday and Sunday. Unlike the rest of this week, a marine layer will move in overnight and help bring temperatures down during the coolest parts of the day.
“The synoptic setup on Sunday will be pretty similar to Saturday, and we will see another hot day,” forecasters said. “For this reason, the Excessive Heat Warning has been extended into Sunday evening for most of the area.”
Temperatures are expected to drop significantly early next week and remain that way until the weekend, when they could rise to around 100 degrees once again.
