An Excessive Heat Watch issued by forecasters earlier this week has been converted into an Excessive Heat Warning that lasts through the start of the weekend.
The warning period begins Friday morning at 11 a.m. and lasts until Saturday evening at 11 p.m. The warning covers much of the Sacramento valley, including nearly all of Solano County.
Several days of above-average heat — including two days of triple-digit temperatures — triggered the Excessive Heat Warning.
In northern parts of Solano County and in Rio Vista, the thermometer is expected to pass 100 degrees on Friday. In Vacaville, the high temperature is expected to reach 107 degrees and could break a single-day record, AccuWeather said.
During periods of hot weather, forecasters say children and pets should not be left in vehicles because the interior can quickly reach lethal temperatures, even with the windows “cracked.”
Individuals should seek shelter inside or in the shade during the hottest periods of the day. Those who must be outdoors should stay hydrated by drinking water and should wear sunscreen to avoid ultraviolet exposure.
Solano County is expected to open several cooling centers throughout the region, with local library branches designated as official cooling centers during periods of hot weather.
