A Dixon man accused of plotting to bomb his brother's Suisun City home entered a guilt plea on Monday after reaching a plea agreement with federal prosecutors.
In the plea deal, 33-year-old Thomas W. Capenhurst acknowledged offering to pay his co-defendant, Robert McGraw, and another unnamed individual $10,000 if they agreed to place pipe bombs around his brother's house on Blue Jay Drive in Suisun City.
McGraw carried out part of the plot in early 2018, according to a press release issued by federal prosecutors on Monday. He allegedly placed a single pipe bomb in the front doorway of the the home. It detonated, blowing the front door off its hinges.
The bomb contained metal shrapnel, some of which lodged itself into the front walls of the home, according to prosecutors. At least five people were inside the house when the bomb detonated, but no one was injured.
Numerous law enforcement agencies participated in the investigation, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Solano County Sheriff's Department, the California Highway Patrol and detectives from law enforcement agencies in Benicia, Fairfield, Vallejo, Dixon, Vacaville and Suisun City.
The motive for bombing the brother's home remains unknown.
Capenhurst is scheduled to be sentenced by a federal judge in January. He will receive at least five years in prison based on the plea agreement reached with prosecutors and could be sentenced up to 20 years in prison at the discretion of the judge.
