Dixon’s incumbent mayor Thom Bogue has been defeated by challenger Steven Bird, according to a projection by Solano News Update based on the county’s report of processed votes.
On Wednesday, Solano County officials said Bird had secured 2,437 votes compared to Bogue’s 2,181 votes. Though the numbers are close, based on historical voter data and current projections, it is highly unlikely Bogue will surpass Bird as mail-in and absentee ballots continue to be processed over the next few days.
Speaking to the Vacaville Reporter on Thursday, Bird said he was pleased with the votes he’d received and was continuing to monitor the processing of ballots. A retired police captain, Bird said his lengthy career in law enforcement coupled with his decision to run what he called a “clean” race ultimately swayed voters to his side.
Voters may have also been persuaded by a recent scandal involving Bogue and the town’s police department after a council member accused the mayor of improperly intervening in a law enforcement action. The accusation led to an investigation by the Solano County District Attorney’s Office, who ultimately found claims of impropriety against Bogue were unsubstantiated.
On Wednesday, Bogue said he was still holding out hope that provisional ballots would move the needle toward another term.
