A small wildfire that burned near Benicia this weekend put up a lot of smoke that could be seen for miles in Solano County.
The fire started late Saturday morning along Lopes Road near Lake Herman Road just west of Interstate 680.
Initial dispatches reviewed by Solano NewsNet put the fire at around 5 acres shortly after it started, but heavy wind and hot weather helped spread the fire to more than 40 acres before firefighters were able to bring it under control.
The blaze was contained around 1 p.m. No structures were threatened by the fire, and there were no injuries.
The fire broke out during a Red Flag Warning that was in place for all of Solano County. On Sunday, forecasters extended the Red Flag Warning until Tuesday evening.
During Red Flag conditions, meteorologists say wildfires can start quickly and spread rapidly.
