Crews battle vegetation fire on Linear Trail in Fairfield

Fire crews in Fairfield battled a fast-moving vegetation fire that ignited Thursday evening.

The fire was reported around 7:30 p.m. in the area of Beck Avenue, close to the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80.

A responding fire crew saw thick, black smoke billowing from the Linear Trail, with flames moving in the direction of the freeway.

The fire was deemed under control by 7:50 p.m. The cause of the fire was not clear.

Eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 are likely to be impacted due to the presence of firefighting vehicles in the slow lane of traffic.
