Crashes, power outages by the minute as storm slams Solano
(Graphic by Solano NewsNet)
Emergency crews and utility workers have their hands full throughout Solano County as vehicle crashes and power outages come in by the minute.
Thousands of people are without power in Vacaville, Fairfield, Dixon, Rio Vista and surrounding rural areas as winds in excess of 50 miles per hour slam the region:
More than 3,000 customers are without power throughout Vacaville
Around 250 customers south of Highway 12 in Fairfield are without electricity
140 customers in rural north Dixon are sitting in the dark
Nearly everyone in Rio Vista has no electricity
The vast power outages afflicting Solano County are to blame for at least one crash involving a big rig outside Rio Vista. The driver of the big rig was injured after it flipped in an area where the CHP had earlier reported defective traffic signals.
Firefighters told dispatchers they were providing traffic control in the area until CHP officers could arrive at the scene. They also spotted at least one power line that had been toppled by the wind.
In Dixon, fire crews were responding to the 200 block of South First Street after a tree reportedly crashed into a home. Similar incidents were reported at homes in Vacaville and Fairfield as well.
