The Solano County Mosquito Abatement District will be carrying out a treatment campaign to help control the population of an invasive species of mosquito.
The Aedes aegypti mosquito was detected in the Dixon area two months ago, as first reported by Solano NewsNet. In a public release on Wednesday, county officials say the mosquito continues to be detected in Dixon, warranting the need for aerial spraying.
The aerial spraying treatment will take place during the early morning hours of Friday, July 19 and again on Saturday, July 20. The spraying will be carried out between Interstate 80 and Highway 113, south of Madden Drive and north of H Street. A map of the treatment area is available by clicking or tapping here.
“As an extra safety measure, it is advisable for families to remain indoors and keep windows and doors closed during the treatment's three-hour window,” the City of Dixon said in a public advisory; the treatment window starts at 2 a.m. Pets should also remain indoors during the spray window.
“The insecticide breaks down rapidly upon morning sunlight exposure,” a city spokesperson affirmed. “The District uses ultra-low volume (ULV) spraying techniques, which greatly diminish the chance of adverse effects from inhalation or skin contact. Moreover, all insecticides employed in the mosquito management program are sanctioned by the EPA for use in public spaces and are widely adopted by vector control departments throughout California.”
