The California Highway Patrol is asking for tips from the public after a 32-year-old man died in rural Vacaville on Friday.
The man, identified by a source as Joseph Bertinoia of Winters, was involved in a hit-and-run crash just before 7 a.m. near the intersection of Hartley Road and Robinson Road.
Bertinoia was driving along south-bound Hartley Road in a Volkswagen sedan when the car experienced some kind of mechanical issue. He pulled over to the side of the road to fix the problem, police said, and that’s when he was struck by a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.
Bertinoia died from his injuries, the CHP said. The suspect vehicle is unknown at this time.
The CHP is asking anyone who may have information about the hit-and-run to contact them at 707-428-2100.
