A California Highway Patrol officer was taken to the hospital by ambulance on Monday after he was injured by a delivery truck driver.
The incident happened Monday afternoon on Texas Street near Pennsylvania Avenue, according to a tip from a Solano NewsNet reader.
The back of the patrolman’s car was totaled after a delivery driver smashed into it, causing the officer to sustain injuries to his back and shoulder.
The officer was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment of his injuries. His identity was not known as of Tuesday morning.
The patrol car involved in the crash was declared a total loss.
Police say neither drugs nor alcohol are likely factors in the crash. Instead, the delivery truck driver told responding officers that he fell asleep at the wheel.
The crash is being investigated as an accident, and it is unlikely the driver of the delivery truck will face charges.
