The California Highway Patrol cited hundreds of drivers during a recent speed enforcement campaign called “Saturation Saturday,” the agency said in a social media post.
The campaign took place on February 13 and targeted drivers along Interstate 80 from San Francisco to the California-Nevada border, including patrols through Solano County.
More than 300 citations were issued, including over 280 for speeding violations, the CHP said. Of those citations, three were issued to drivers who were allegedly speeding in excess of 100 miles per hour.
According to the CHP, the following citations and arrests were made:
347 traffic citations overall
287 citations for speeding
13 citations for distracted driving
3 speeding citations for drivers traveling over 100 miles per hour
3 arrests for unspecified misdemeanor violations
2 arrests for driving while under the influence
1 arrest on an unspecified felony violation
“The mission of the California Highway Patrol is to provide the highest level of safety, service and security,” a spokesperson for the CHP wrote. “We would like to remind our community members to travel safely and obey all laws.”
The campaign was carried out after the CHP noticed an uptick in complaints from drivers of others who were speeding or otherwise being reckless on area roads. The CHP said they were able to organize the campaign thanks to grant money provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety.
