The rap artist brother of a Sacramento-area man who is accused of murdering two women in Vacaville, then broadcasting himself with their deceased bodies, has denounced the killings and expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
In a podcast interview recorded last week and published on Monday, Marcus Weber — who goes by the stage name “Uzzy Marcus” — said he had not seen the viral video showing his brother, Raymond Weber, leering over the deceased bodies of two women.
Marcus Weber was incarcerated at a jail in Sacramento on an unrelated charge (he has since posted bail). Marcus has not been accused of any wrongdoing in the crime involving his brother, and he said he has not watched copies of the 30-minute social media broadcast that have been re-posted to YouTube and other parts of the Internet.
“I came home and was like, goddamn, this shit is crazy,” Marcus Weber said on the underground rap podcast No Jumper.
Last month, Vacaville police officers were dispatched to an apartment along Rocky Hill Road after receiving a tip from a member of the community that someone inside was live-streaming themselves with a loaded firearm and the bodies of two dead women.
The victims were later identified as 26-year-old Savannah Theberge of Utah and a 15-year-old girl from Elk Grove. Theberge’s mother said her daughter was engaged to Raymond Weber before she died.
After a standoff that lasted several hours, police apprehended 29-year-old Raymond Weber. He was later charged with two counts of first-degree murder. In court filings reviewed by Solano NewsNet, prosecutors accused Raymond Weber of killing his victims while raping them.
The killings unwittingly threw Marcus Weber into the spotlight because copies of the videos that were re-posted to YouTube and other websites associated him as the brother of the alleged killer.
“It surprised the shit out of me,” Marcus Weber said in the interview. “I thought that shit was fake.”
Marcus Weber said he was never close with his brother Raymond — the two appeared in at least one music video, but beyond that, they were their own separate people with separate lives.
“I never really got close to my brother all the way, because he was always living a whole other life than me,” Marcus Weber said. “I never was around siblings or anything once I was doing my thing. I was always away from home.”
The two brothers were so estranged that Marcus Weber didn’t even know his brother Raymond was engaged.
“This whole story is like a news story to me,” Marcus Weber said.
He went on to denounce the killings of the two women, saying he was concerned for the families of the two women who appeared in the gory social media videos.
“It’s fucked up for those girls and their families, that’s for real,” he said. “I can’t stress that enough — that shit ain’t okay, whether it was a crazy mental health [episode, or] whatever it was.”
At a court hearing last week, Raymond Weber’s public defender also raised concerns about the man’s mental fitness. A judge overseeing the case ordered a full medical check-up, including a mental health evaluation. The defendant has not been able to enter a plea in the case since he was charged.
Mental health episode or not, Marcus Weber said the murders were inexcusable.
“That’s a fucked-up situation,” he said. “It makes you want to stay closer to your family, because you never know what person your daughter or anyone might be dealing with.”
Raymond Weber is expected to make his next court appearance in early March.
