Firefighters tackle three-alarm vegetation blaze in rural Vacaville

Firefighters quickly knocked down a dangerous three-alarm vegetation fire that ignited in rural Vacaville on Thursday.
The fire was reported around 5 p.m. near the intersection of Lyon Road and Cherry Glen Road close to westbound Interstate 80.
According to eyewitnesses, a pick-up truck driving on one of the roads lost its tire and began sparking, igniting the dry grass on the nearby hill. A responding fire crew witnessed at least two acres of charred, dry grass, with the blaze burning up the hill, according to fire dispatches.
Aerial footage broadcast by KCRA-TV (Channel 3) showed thick flames burning away from the roadway. A portion of Lyon Road was closed while fire crews tackled the blaze.
The fire was deemed under control around 5:45 p.m. and appeared to be mostly extinguished as of 6 p.m.
