Several neighborhoods in Vallejo were evacuated after a fast-moving brush fire broke out early Tuesday evening.
The fire started just before 5:30 p.m. in a grassy field along the 300 block of Skyline Drive, according to fire personnel.
Residents along Skyline Drive, Pajaro Way and Silverview Court were asked to leave their homes due to the fast-moving fire. One person was treated for smoke inhalation, officials said.
As many as six homes along Skyline Drive were burned, according to a source, including two structures that suffered extensive damage. The financial extent of the damage to those structures was not clear as of Tuesday evening.
“Thanks to the actions of the wonderful first responders, they knocked it down as quickly as they could,” Robert McConnell, the mayor of Vallejo, said in an interview with NBC station KNTV (Channel 11). “But it’s still a tragedy for the people whose homes are impacted and having to deal with the aftermath of the smoke damage.”
Investigators are on the scene attempting to determine how the blaze started.
