A high-speed traffic crash in rural Fairfield triggered a power outage that left around 6,000 Vacaville and Fairfield residents in the dark on Friday.
The crash happened along Vanden Road near the Amtrak train station around 5:45 p.m.
An eyewitness told Fairfield firefighters that a sedan crashed into a utility pole at a high rate of speed, causing the pole to come tumbling down on top of the car.
The driver was trapped inside the vehicle and sustained major injuries, according to dispatches reviewed by Solano NewsNet. They were successfully extricated from the sedan about an hour after the crash. An ambulance transported the driver to an area hospital.
The crash was the second such incident in less than a week to trigger a power outage in Vacaville. On Sunday, a vehicle collision with a utility pole along Leisure Town Road caused a blackout in the same neighborhoods.
