A fast-moving wildfire that triggered a large firefighting response in unincorporated Solano County near Benicia may have been deliberately started, Solano NewsNet has learned.
The blaze was reported just after 5 p.m. near the intersection of Goodyear Road and Morrow Lane east of Interstate 680.
Aerial video published by KPIX-TV (Channel 5) showed flames burning alongside the Interstate and racing up a hill toward several clusters of cell phone towers.
It was not clear if any structures were threatened by the flames. No injuries were reported.
The two-alarm fire was given the nickname “Goodyear Fire” because of its location. It is the second time this year that fire crews in Solano County have assigned that name to a vegetation blaze that sparked in that area.
Around 6:30 p.m., the commanding fire official on the scene initiated an arson investigation and requested the assistance of the Solano County Sheriff’s Office, Solano NewsNet confirmed.
Firefighters were dispatched from CAL FIRE, the Cordelia Fire Protection District, the Suisun City Fire Department, the Suisun Fire Protection District, the Fairfield Fire Department, the Vallejo Fire Department and the Benicia Fire Department.
Forward progress of the fire was stopped around 8 p.m.
