A one-alarm structure fire drew a large firefighting response to a building on South Fifth Street on Thursday.
The fire was reported around 12:15 p.m. at the City of Dixon Department of Engineering building.
Madeline Henry, a spokesperson for the City of Dixon, said the cause of the fire was a malfunctioning hallway light.
“[The light] had an electrical short, began to heat up and char the surrounding beam,” Henry said.
All city employees were able to evacuate the building safely.
“Crews were able to quickly locate the fire, extinguish it and turn off power to the building,” Henry said.
