Firefighters, deputy rescue one from canal after car crash near Dixon

One person was rescued from a vehicle after it crashed into a canal near Dixon on Tuesday.
The crash was reported just before 10:30 a.m. near the intersection of Hawkins Road and Pitt School Road in rural Solano County.
Solano County Sheriff’s deputies were the first to arrive on the scene, and a deputy sprang into action to render aid to a driver who was trapped in the vehicle.
Firefighters from Dixon and Vacaville arrived a short time later and performed a water rescue to free the trapped driver. A dog was also rescued from the vehicle and placed in the care of animal control, according to a deputy who spoke with Solano NewsNet on the scene.
The driver was taken to a nearby hospital after complaining of a back injury. The extent of the injury was not known, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
