Forecasters with the National Weather Service have issued a Fire Weather Watch for parts of the Sacramento Valley, including Solano County.
The watch period starts Thursday at 11 a.m. and lasts until Friday at 8 p.m., though it could be extended or shortened based on weather forecasts. The watch covers all of Solano County, as well as neighboring Yolo and Sacramento counties.
Meteorologists with the weather agency say a combination of gusty wind, low humidity and high temperatures will create dangerous fire conditions that could help wildfires start quickly and spread rapidly.
“A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur,” a weather forecaster said in a bulletin on Tuesday.
Forecasters say the Fire Weather Watch could be upgraded to a Red Flag Warning as the week progresses.
On Monday, Solano NewsNet reported a fire weather alert was possible based on forecast models that indicated conditions favorable to wildfires. An article published last month said wildfires were possible in May and June based on drought evaluations and forecast models published by the National Interagency Fire Center.
