Fairfield officer involved in freeway crash

A Fairfield police officer was involved in a crash involving her patrol car and a civilian vehicle on Wednesday.
The crash happened around 5:30 p.m. along the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 near the truck scales.
According to police dispatches reviewed by Solano NewsNet, the crash happened when the driver of a Ford Mustang rear-ended the patrol vehicle.
The officer was able to provide dispatchers with a description of the crash scene and was not injured during the incident.
The condition of the driver inside the Ford Mustang was not immediately known. A responding fire crew reported major front-end damage to the vehicle that struck the patrol car.
The California Highway Patrol later reported that the crash was apparently caused by metal debris in the roadway.
Police and fire crews were still on the scene as of 5:35 p.m., and traffic was slowing to a crawl through the area.
