Firefighter collapses after battling backyard fire in Fairfield
The firefighter was rushed to an area hospital and is expected to recover.

A Fairfield firefighter was rushed to the hospital on Thursday after he collapsed at the scene of a residential fire.
Around 1:30 p.m., fire crews were dispatched to a home along the 500 block of Arkansas Street after receiving an initial report of an explosion in a garage.
When firefighters arrived, they located a small grass fire burning in the backyard of the home. The blaze was quickly contained, and there were no injuries in connection with the fire.
A short time after the blaze was contained, a firefighter collapsed behind a fire truck. Life-saving measures were performed, and the firefighter was taken by ambulance to an area hospital, according to a source familiar with the incident.
The firefighter is expected to recover from the incident, the source said.

The incident happened during a multi-day heat wave in which temperatures were in excess of 100 degrees in Fairfield. It was not clear if the weather played a role in the firefighter’s injury.
Police, firefighters and paramedics were still at the scene as of 5 p.m. No other information was immediately available.
