Tire sparks fire near freeway in Fairfield

A vegetation fire that was started by a flying vehicle tire burned dangerously close to a structure in Fairfield on Tuesday.
The fire sparked around 8:30 p.m. along Interstate 80 near Manuel Campos Parkway after a driver called to say a tire flew off her U-Haul vehicle, made contact with the freeway then ignited.
Flames moved to the side of the road near Manuel Campos Parkway, where it spread to dry brush and trees. At one point, a structure on nearby Lyon Road was threatened, according to fire dispatches reviewed by Solano NewsNet.
The fire was quickly contained about 15 minutes later.
