Firefighters from the Cordelia Fire Protection District and the Fairfield Fire Department are battling two separate grass fires that may have been sparked by a downed power line.
Around 2:30 p.m., fire officials in Cordelia received a report of a loud explosion followed by billowing white smoke along the 9300 block of West Cordelia Road near the UPS processing facility.
An initial report indicated a motorist may have backed into a power pole in that area, causing the downed power line and sparking the vegetation fire.
A responding fire crew from the Cordelia Fire Protection District spotted two separate fires in that air, including a separate vegetation fire along the railroad tracks.
It was not clear if the UPS depot or any nearby businesses were being evacuated as a result of the grass fire.
The fire was contained around 3:30 p.m.
