Fire crews from throughout Solano County battled a three-alarm vegetation fire that ignited in rural Vacaville on Tuesday.
The fire started around 4:30 p.m. along Hay Road near Travis Air Force Base, east of the city of Vacaville.
The cause of the fire was not clear, but dry brush and gusty wind in the area quickly caused it to spread.
A large plume of smoke was visible from Vacaville and Fairfield. Crews from Dixon, Davis, Vacaville, Fairfield and Rio Vista were on scene, as were firefighters from the California Medical Facility.
It was not clear if structures were threatened by the blaze. Forward progress on the fire was stopped just before 6 p.m.
