Officers with the Benicia Police Department arrested an alleged carjacking suspect after a tip from an automated camera.
On Saturday, the agency said it arrested 31-year-old Alfonso Lamar Hamilton of Oakland after an automated license plate reader camera alerted dispatchers to the presence of a stolen car in the city.
Officers located the stolen car at a convenience store along the 500 block of Military East, and later spotted Hamilton exiting the store.
“He became combative, but was eventually placed in handcuffs after a struggle,” an agency spokesperson said in a press release.
Police searched the car and found more than 60 pounds of marijuana inside vacuum-sealed packages.
“Detectives are still investigating how the suspect came into such a large amount of marijuana,” the police department said.
Hamilton was booked into the Solano County Jail on a number of charges, including robbery, felony assault and weapons-related offenses.
