A grateful resident in Benicia offered some treats to the city’s public safety dispatchers on Monday for a job well done.
A card that accompanied four boxes of Harry & David Moose Munch-brand gourmet caramel popcorn snacks explained the treats were donated by a spouse whose husband had fallen several times in November and required assistance from the city’s fire department.
“Every time we called, you were helpful and professional,” the note said. “We appreciate what you do on a daily basis.”
In a note posted on social media, a spokesperson for the Benicia Police Department said the donation was appreciated in part because it recognized critical safety employees who aren’t always in the public’s eye.
“Our dispatchers are often the unsung heroes during our daily operations,” the police spokesperson wrote. “They are, indeed, the first people to help you in a time of need.”
The city’s dispatchers coordinate public safety calls with the town’s police and fire departments.
