Another Vacaville police officer is punctuating a lengthy career in law enforcement with a retirement.
Police officer Danny Over will end a 25-year career in law enforcement, much of it spent with the Vacaville Police Department, as he shifts into a new role as a high school teacher.
The retirement announcement and job change was made in a wide-ranging interview with the Vacaville Reporter that was arranged in part with the assistance of the police department.
Over comes from a long line of law enforcement officials, and he’s worn many hats during his time as a Vacaville cop, including stints with the agency’s narcotics enforcement team and working as a patrol officer.
He spent more than a decade working as a youth services officer at a local high school while also teaching a class on community policing.
Over says he wants to become a teacher at Will C. Wood High School, so he can continue to work with youth and the community.
Over’s last day on the job is this Wednesday, at which point he will use accrued time off before his official retirement in early May, the newspaper said.
Over is at least the third known Vacaville police officer to retire this year: In February, the city’s long-time police chief John Carli announced he would be leaving the force. He was followed into retirement by police officer Walt Simon, whose retirement was announced last month.
