A pursuit that wound through portions of Solano County on Saturday ended with the arrest of one person in rural Vacaville.
Around 3 p.m., police in American Canyon attempted to stop a black Jeep for an unspecified traffic violation when the driver took off at a high rate of speed.
According to dispatches reviewed by Solano NewsNet, the driver reached speeds of 140 miles per hour during the pursuit. The American Canyon officer who initiated the chase lost sight of the suspect around the traffic scales near Cordelia.
A county-wide alert was issued, and a short time later, a Solano County Sheriff’s deputy spotted the vehicle speeding near Manuel Campos Parkway outside of Fairfield. The deputy did not pick up the chase because of traffic in the area, the dispatches revealed.
The California Highway Patrol’s helicopter was brought in to assist. Around 3:30 p.m., the helicopter pilot found the suspect speeding along Elmira road toward Lewis Road in rural Vacaville.
The Sheriff’s Office was put on notice, and when deputies attempted to pick up the chase, the suspect ditched his vehicle along Lewis Road and ran into an orchard.
A K9 unit from the Vacaville Police Department was called in to assist. The K9 found the suspect near a greenhouse. He was taken into custody without further incident.
