Firefighters tackle 3-alarm blaze west of Rio Vista

Firefighters from the Montezuma Fire Protection District tackled a wind-whipped, three-alarm fire along Highway 12 on Tuesday.
The fire started around 2:15 p.m. in a grassy field near Olsen Road, west of Rio Vista and north of the wind turbine farm.
A two-alarm response was struck shortly after the fire was reported, and was upgraded to a three-alarm response around 2:30 p.m. A responding fire crew said the blaze appeared to be about five acres in size, with the potential to grow up to 100 acres.
Firefighters from the Suisun Fire Protection District, California State Prison Fire Response, Isleton Fire Department, River Delta Fire District, Rio Vista Fire Department and other agencies assisted.
The fire burned around 34 acres before it was contained. The cause of the fire was not known.
